Simple Comfort Food: Oatey Apple & Berry Crumble
I recently went to a local farm shop and picked up some baking apples with the intention of making this yummy crumble; i also intended to go for a walk and pick some blackberries that seem to be everywhere at the minute. this part didn't happen instead i bought some frozen berries from the supermarket.. not quite the same but it would have been a good idea right?
This is the easiest bake ever, apple and berries with a sweet oatey crumble. Sorry i didn't get a cooked picture, i ate that.
For this recipe i used;
- 2 Baking Apples
- Half a bag of frozen summer berries
- A Couple of handful of porridge oats
- 300g Plain Flour
- 175g Brown Sugar (caster works aswell)
- 200g Butter
- 50g Brown Sugar for filling
- Splash of apple juice for filling
Peel & Core your apples, cut them into chunky pieces and add to pan with a little bit of apple juice (if you don't have that water works too), Your frozen berries and the sugar. Let stew for a while until starting to get soft.
In a separate bowl you want to start making the crumble topping, so combine your plain flour and butter cut into pieces, just rub together until the crumble effect happens, add your sugar & oats.
Add your filling to a bake proof dish, add your crumble on top and bake till yummy. It doesn't take long, i served with some custard.
